Mike Trout is having an interesting season to say the least. 10 HRs but only 13 RBI which doesn't seem possible and yet.. A 158 wRC+ but is only batting .237 with a .321 OBP but a .598 Slg. Someone needs to get him outta LAA, his contract probably will continue to age poorly but part of me doesn't hate the idea of Trout DH'ing for the Sox. .206 BABIP will do that to you. I don't think his contract will actually age all that terribly if you moved him to a corner OF spot to reduce wear. Definitely don't think he needs to be put at DH. Plenty of good players have a couple bad injury years then recover to finish out their career strong. If you can get him to waive his no trade and the Angels to make him available I don't think its even a question that almost any team with the payroll space would take him.

Rough to see this type of stuff. Considering what they rightfully wanted for him in a trade the glut of elbow injuries makes me leery at the thought of giving up any big packages for a stud pitcher anymore.

I think there was a conversation a few months ago spurred by Ian Cundall's deep dive into the Sox not really drafting pitchers - what the Marlins have is almost both like a best case-worst case scenario. Marlins developed a goldmine of arms - and now Alcantara & Eury Perez under the knife, Max Meyer just back from TJ, Braxton Garrett and now Luzardo sidelined (and hopefully not serious). I am knocking on wood fanatically, but a bevy of talented position players amongst your top prospects seems less likely to implode like this. But it might just simply be crap luck.

Rotations around the league are starting to resemble AAA at this point; I dread popping onto MLBTradeRumors these days

Jackson Holliday demoted
He managed a .059/.111/.059 with a 50% strikeout rate

I mean, theres his confidence It briings down the other hitters wdhen they have to watch a guy K so much and bat 059/.111/.059 The Orioles are idiots for giving so many AB's away.... Oh we have Bobby Dalb? Oh he's hitting?! Whoopsie ... got a little egg on my face... Nevermind the above Balt. must know somethinhg the lay person doesnt grasp.

You have to let the sample size get large enough to be meaningful. I don't mean that from a statistical perspective so much as meaning it needs to be large enough to tell you the difference between "initial struggles with his first time in the majors" and "we called him up too soon." Not a great situation but you could argue sending him back to AAA after 2 weeks would've potentially been just as bad for his confidence.

Has anyone seen a list of the players who have May 1st opt outs? I haven't been able to find one but was curious to see if anything of interest to fill in depth with all the injuries was going to shake close.

This is great! But it's a shame Alex didn't bring his "Down on the Farm" intro song.

Theo as baseball diplomat. A lot of dancing around but a recognition that there's a tension between optimizing performance, and burning through pitching talent. The MLBPA will probably put MLB on notice that this is impacting pitcher valuation at some point.

Ban some pitching mechanics, like that extreme sidearm delivery? I would be up for that!

But with money on the line its certain to come up I believe.

(I have a personal fondness for all sorts of funky deliveries and would prefer to get rid of the balk rule and let a thousand twitchy little flowers bloom)

(I have a personal fondness for all sorts of funky deliveries and would prefer to get rid of the balk rule and let a thousand twitchy little flowers bloom) Disagree. Pitch limits do nothing for relievers who get hurt just as often. The problem is that the cause is almost certainly this pursuit of maximum velocity. I don't know how you get guys to stop trying to throw hard. Pitch clock, in theory, should do this by giving pitchers less time to recover between pitches, but clearly that's not how it's working.

Jose Abreu agreed to be optioned by the Astros so he can work through his struggles. Don't see that too often.
