If we get the bad news Trevor is done for the year this is under the idea we'd get a healthy SS (and RH bat) in 2024 who could probably slide to 3B down the line, accepting some -EV $$$ after 2027 in exchange for getting a player now in a decently promising season.... but then I looked up Bogaerts deal again. Story is $25m through 2027/age 34, X is $25m through 2033 during his age 40 season! Story's deal is certainly underwater at this point but my god if you want to talk about an albatross contract X's is atrocious.
So why even post? Because I think San Diego may be desperate to clear future financial obligations, if nothing else AJ Preller isn't afraid to make bold moves, and while his contract is a hard no from me I still like X a lot as a player and veteran leader who fits well with our current and presumably future lefty heavy roster (as long as he has no hard feelings from the FA stuff). So how much would you need San Diego to pay down later years of X's deal to consider a straight up swap? I'm not even sure how much San Diego would be interested when Fangraphs has them slightly above our playoff chances at 37.9% today, or how their other MI guys are past Ha-Seong Kim, but in a hypothetical where they are under orders to move him what sort of discount on those 2028-2033 seasons would you need before considering it?

Even if Trevor's shoulder is shot I doubt Boston would entertain this option. They can rid his CBT number in another three years from the books. Around that time Casas will be in his arbitration years and the team will likely be trying for early extensions with Mayer, Teel and Anthony. I'm sure the club would prefer the financial flexibility rather than having 24.5 million on the books when their new core will start getting expensive.
