When Craig runs the "pitchers mile) I'll bet a beer on him to win.

I'm fairly certain he's been talking about his changeup like that for a while now, fwiw. Every pitcher has.

I am dying to know all the prospects that were dealt the last two to three years which one dill hurt the most. I keep thinking it’s one we would not pick as a first option. I wonder If Shaw will come down to earth.
I am glad the publications underestimate our prospects. I believe the Sox FO made a excellent effort to rebuild and upgrade the pitching. This will bear fruit but it will take a little time. I can’t wait. That’s the only thing the Sox have not really done was a homegrown staff. That’s so hard. If Groome ends up being a two I be over the moon.

This will bear fruit but it will take a little time. I can’t wait. That’s the only thing the Sox have not really done was a homegrown staff. That’s so hard. If Groome ends up being a two I be over the moon. I would guess both Kopech and Moncada will be the ones that hurt the worst. Both players are loaded with talent. Kopech has the stuff to front a rotation and be dominant and Moncada, even with his Ks, can be a power hitting, speedy 2b who gets on-base a lot at the top of the order. Both players have question marks. Will Kopech harness his control? If the answer is mostly yes, then he can be an ace at some point next decade, and if Moncada does cut down on his Ks, then he could be also have a strong BA which would further increase his OBP to the point of being a guy who can OPS well into the mid .900s. So while that's happening in the 2020s, Chris Sale is either long gone, or extremely expensive to retain and perhaps not as good as he is now. Pedroia will be in need of replacing by time 2021 rolls around. Does that mean the Sox shouldn't have made those deals? No. It just means the Sox gave up some serious future talent to get some serious present talent. I still think Anderson Espinoza eventually becomes a very good pitcher, but it could be awhile with him now that he's injured. I think the one nobody talks much about, but I think most of us feel will bite us in the butt is the loss of Logan Allen, who is doing a pretty good impersonation of a young Jon Lester. Margot is a nice player but he wasn't going to dislodge JBJ, but Allen - well there would be plenty of room for him in the theoretical Kopech/Espinoza/Groome/Allen/Houcke rotation that never happened.

The Cubs add Allen Webster on a minor league deal. He's struggled in recent seasons with Korea's Samsung Lions and the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate. I had super high hopes for this guy at one point.

Henry Owens, put on waivers by AZ ... picked up by LA, in MLB spring training LA must have heard about that fastball deception. (In all seriousness, LA is a very good landing spot for him. Smart team in terms of developing/re-developing pitchers, and the way they rotate their starters between their rotation, DL, and the minors, he’ll have a wide open path to MLB playing time.)

This is the second time Alcantara has been outrighted - he also cleared waivers last May. He struggled badly in the majors but pitched well for Triple-A Nashville, though he also missed six weeks with an injury. I suppose you run out of options quickly when you need to be added to the 40-man on your 21st birthday.

It's surprising that nobody we traded has won a Nobel Peace prize. I for one am still happy with Kimbrel, Sale, and Pomeranz.

Appropos of very little, Braves selected the contract of Miguel Socolovich today. He was signed by the Sox in like, 2003, and is still pitching, which is nuts to me. He was never ranked on SoxProspects. I mean, he was traded with Willy Mota in 2008 for... are you ready? ... DAVID AARDSMA. Seriously, he's been around so long his VSL stats predate when B-Ref lists VSL stats. www.soxprospects.com/players/socolovich-miguel.htmElsewhere, the O's released Hunter Cervenka. 2008 draftee who was traded with Michael Bowden for Marlon Byrd in 2012.
