So Carlos Asuaje is currently hitting .311/.378/.434 in 136 PA for the Padres. (He does have a .400 BABIP though) He also hit this very comedic homer, lol.

I read a few other blurbs from Lars previously. If he is truly authoring all of these on his own, they are pure gold and he is quite hilarious!

Yoan Moncada had a game-tying homer in the ninth and a walk-off single in the 11th. Since the Boston series started he's at .391/.548/.565.

It was a hell of a home run, too. Rocket to the opposite field on a fastball away.

Yeah Moncada is going to be special in a lot of ways. The Sale deal will probably look a lot like the Beckett deal when it's all said and done.

The terms of Chris Sale's contract may be the best in baseball for an elite pitcher approaching 30. Could Moncada be a perennial all-star? Maybe. Is he a Dan Uggla K machine? More likely. Is Chris Sale (barring that crazy delivery making his arm detach from his body) a perennial Cy candidate? Definitely. If I'm the Sox front office, I'd make that deal over and over again.

Let's try not to rehash specific moves and trades here too deeply. Like the occasional "I can't believe they let Justin Haley get away" is cool, but an entire re-hashing of the Kimbrel-Margot trade is not what I have in mind. I intentionally posted the Moncada thing in here rather than the trade thread because I just wanted to appreciate him for a minute without re-litigating the trade.

I wasn't trying to bring the trade discussion here either. I marvel at Moncada's size and abilities personally. I did compare two trades to one another, but I didn't want to get into specifics either. Personally for me, I can see how it how both the Sale and Beckett deals compare. I hope both trades are similar in terms of results too.
Edit- The Beckett deal worked for both the Marlins and Sox. The Sale deal could easily work for both sides as well.

Apologies. Not my intent to rake muck. Not a problem at all, I know how these things goes and it's always natural to respond when seeing a post you disagree with. That's why I posted when I did.

Manuel Margot doing well for San Diego, potential #3 or #4 for NL Rookie of the Year, behind Bellinger and Freeland. I kind of feel that Guerra, Asuaje, and a lower prospect such as Darwinson Hernandez should have finished that deal.

I don't know that I'd be that certain about Margot finishing that high in the ROY voting. DeJong's got 18 homers and Bell's got 20, and a number of other starters like Blach and Senzatela could finish ahead of him too. Tough for a guy like Margot whose primary value is in his defense to get recognized there. At any rate, Bellinger's going to run away with it. As for the point about the trade, note that at the time Darwinzon had just come off his second DSL season, in which he'd walked 30 batters in 65 1/3 innings.

Preemptively, let's not go over the Kimbrel trade for the umpteenth time on this thread. Thanks.

Kopech's AA debut last night 4.1 innings 3H, 2BB, 10K's 1HR 2ER. Cant help but giggle. So I'm guessing he gave up a flare, maybe a grounder somewhere. Stranding one of them and facing a guy who was swinging fastball out over the plate no matter what. Btw, any news on Kopechs development of that change-piece? Making him a full on Syndergaard clone?

Some guy on MLBN said they expected him to finish second, and I combined that with my actual prediction of #5 or #6. And I meant at about his (D. Hernandez) current level, not him back then. At that point it could have been Stankiewicz or Light or someone like that 5-10 spots below Logan Allen.

Okay, okay, I didn't realize there would be so many installments of the Lars Experience. I missed a couple but Part 6 (along with links to the previous 5) can be found here.

I would absolutely read Lars' memoirs. He had a gifted eye for detail and a smooth writing style.

I would absolutely read Lars' memoirs. He had a gifted eye for detail and a smooth writing style. Same, that series has quickly become the best thing on FG. The kid has real talent. Likable tone, occasionally poetic, finds a lot of broader cultural observations in the mundane. I hope he keeps writing.
