With the Cron acquisition, it sent me to the current version of the 2024 active rosters.
it is certainly going to change, but currently has Houck as 5th starter, Joely Rodriguez as the last reliever, Mata on the IL (he hasn't pitched yet in the spring) and Cron bouncing Dalbec back to the Woosox. Neither Joely or Cron are on the 40 man currently.
Lots to work out in the last month or so of spring training.

I don't see a big roster crunch even if those two guys are added to the 40 (though neither is a guarantee at the start of the year).

Barring any other moves, position side looks something like this?
LINEUP OF - Jarren Duran 3B - Rafael Devers SS - Trevor Story 1B - Triston Casas OF - Tyler O'Neill DH - Masataka Yoshida 2B - Vaughn Grissom OF - Wilyer Abreu (or Rafaela?) C - Connor Wong
BENCH C McGuire/Perez 1B Cron/Dalbec INF Pablo OF Refsnyder (or Abreu/O’Neill if Rafaela comes up)

LF: Duran/O'Neill CF: Rafaela/Duran RF: Abreu/Refsnyder Yoshida DHs full time, Refsnyder is the emergency 1B and righty pinch hitter.

Rafaela making the roster over Cron is the babyface/heel storyline of the spring, although I won’t begrudge you if you’re rooting for them to steal an extra year of control.

This Netflix thing has me constantly thinking about this team in terms of dramatic arcs. The aging veteran fighting to make the squad for one more go-round vs. the dazzling rookie struggling to adjust to major league pitching is a pretty good one.

I am doing the Price is Right $1 bid: I say we are looking at our opening day roster. With apologies to Chase Anderson, this turned out to be correct. Get ready to play some Plinko, Manfred! There’s some continuity between last year’s Opening Day roster and this year’s. Here is where things have changed.( Bolded = change involving someone not on opening day roster last year) C: Wong/McGuire 1B: Casas 2B: Arroyo -> ValdezSS: Kiké -> Story3B: Devers LF: Yoshida -> DuranCF: Duvall -> RafaelaRF: Verdugo -> O’NeillDH: Turner -> Yoshida Bench: Chang, Refsnyder, Tapia -> Reyes, Dalbec, AbreuRotation- you might not recall Bello, Paxton and Whitlock were injured to start year!) 1 Kluber -> Bello2 Sale -> Whitlock3 Pivetta 4 Crawford 5 Houck Bullpen- Jansen, Martin, Winckowski all return. Schreiber, Bleier, Braiser, Ort, Kelley are replaced by Joely (who was hurt to start last year), Bernardino, Slaten, Campbell(?), and Chase Anderson.

I'm really rooting for Bobby D to do well this year. The kind of power-on-contact he brings from the right side of the plate is extremely rare and desperately needed by this team. Here are the top 10 players in barrel rate among those who have seen >2500 pitches, dating back to 2020:
He can provide some much needed thump against lefties, hoping he takes this opportunity and runs with it.
